Jelena Ostapenko first captured my attention with the many twists and facial expressions she makes as she is about to serve. I often wonder if she is aware of her body language. She also always comes across as a player who does not deal well when things do not go her way. Yet, you have to admire her ground strokes, the power and the precision. When she is on her game, she is truly a force to be reckoned with.
A Little About Jelena Ostapenko
Jelena Ostapenko got to a career high of number five in 2018. In 2017 she won her first major title on the red clay of Roland Garros. She plays well on any surface. Serena Williams is her tennis idol. The Latvian is also a gifted doubles player with eleven doubles titles to her name with various partners.

In three previous matches, Ostapenko was only able to win one set from the number one ranked player, Aryna Sabalenka. The first set was incredibly competitive. Sabalenka was broken in her first service game of the match. Ostapenko had numerous breaks points to make it 5-2 in the first set but could not capitalize. Instead, Sabalenka capitalized on her break point opportunity to even the first set 4-4. However, the Latvian immediately broke back to serve for the set 5-4 up. The second set started as the first with Sabalenka immediately losing her serve; however, the Belarusian broke back and evened the set 1-1. Nevertheless, Sabalenka could not consolidate her serve and never won another game in the set. The Latvian won the title 6-4, 6-1.
