Jakub Mensik Had Many Firsts Against Djokovic

Jakub Mensik

Jacob Mensik did many things. First, he won his first singles title, but it was not just any old singles title, it was his first Masters 1000 title. Then he defeated Novak Djokovic for the first time in straight sets. Finally, in his first ever ATP singles final, he won the title. Again, note it was no scrub he played to win the Miami Open title. This guy is still just nineteen. I have to say that many European tennis players just seem a bit hungrier. I believe that gives them an edge over other players.

Jakub Mensik, Next Great Czech Player

We know how expectations can apply pressure. However, after such high praise from Novak Djokovic, I am curious to see how high this teenager will go. The landscape of men’s tennis is changing. I am ready to see what the next era of tennis has to offer. I am also hoping that some American male tennis players will be in the conversation. For now congratulations to Jakub Mensik on a hard-fought 7-6(4), 7-6(4) victory.
