Learner Tien crashed through the top hundred barrier with his impressive performance at the first major of the season. Tien started out his Australian Open getting through the qualifying rounds and in his first main draw match, he went five sets. That was his first win in the main draw of a major, because he lost the previous two first rounds at the US Open. What was impressive was that Tien in his second round, needed another five-set match to defeat [5] Daniil Medvedev. Tien lost in the fourth round to Lorenzo Sonego because he was physically, emotionally, and mentally drained.

Of note, Learner Tien played in the Next Gen ATP Finals in 2024. He defeated the twentieth ranked Arthur Fils, and the forty-eighth ranked Jakub Mensik; however, he lost in the final to a fellow teenager, Joao Fonseca. Interestingly, Fonseca was ranked one hundred and forty-eight and Tien lost both matches they played. The American has been winning on the ATP Challenger Tour and the ITF Circuit, which helped to build his confidence going into the 2025 Australian Open. He turned professional in 2023 and now many Americans will be expecting much more from him. The American has a great back hand and loves to play on hard courts. What will Learner Tien do in 2025?
