Once Coco Gauff elevated her game, there was nothing the Canadian could do to deny her the victory. Gauff won 6-4, 6-2. The American will need to bring her best game in the next round because she will face an opponent who can be dangerous, Belinda Bencic. Their H2H is tied at 1:1; however, Gauff won their last meeting in 2023 quite convincingly 6-1, 6-2.

Tommy Paul Can Make A Statement In Australia

 [12] Tommy Paul had a much better day at the office today. He defeated Roberto Carballes Baena 7-6(0), 6-2, 6-0. Next up for Paul is Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The American leads their H2H 3:0; however, the last time they played was in 2023. Of note, Davidovich Fokina did push him to five sets at the Australian Open in 2023. Things do not look so good for the Spaniard, who has been pushed to back-to-back five-set matches.

American Successes In Doubles

Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram teamed up to knock out the ninth seeds. Matthew Ebden and Joran Vliegen lost 1-6, 4-6 to the Americans. [7] Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow defeated fellow Americans, Giron and King, 4-6, 7-6(6), 7-5. Not a smart move for Marcos Giron to play doubles because he has already had a five-set singles match and will play the top seed in his next singles match. What will he have left in the tank to compete against Jannik Sinner?

Jessica Pegula Amongst The Fallen Seeds

2025 will not be the year that [7] Jessica Pegula wins the Australian Open. The American lost in straight sets, 6-7(3), 1-6 to Olga Danilovic. [12] Diana Shnaider lost to [18] Donna Vekic 6-7(4), 7-6(3), 5-7. [20] Arthur Fils retired in four sets to his compatriot [14] Ugo Humbert. Fils won the first set 6-4, then lost the match 5-7, 4-6, 0-1. [11] Paula Badosa had a good win today, she defeated [17] Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
