American Reilly Opelka needed seven match points to secure his first round match against the qualifier from Belgium. Gauthier Onclin took the first set from the American; however, Opelka fought back to wrestle the second set from Onclin. Opelka won 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-2. [3] Coco Gauff defeated fellow American, Sofia Kenin, 6-3, 6-3. [7] Jessica Pegula won her match in straight sets (6-3, 6-0). [10] Danielle Collins is still going strong. Collins defeated Daria Snigur also in straight sets (7-6(4), 6-3).

Caroline Dolehide defeated qualifier, Sara Bejlek, in straight sets, 7-6(5), 6-2. [22] Sebastian Korda got by a qualifier in four sets. It will be interesting to see how he plays in the next round with his injury and a tougher opponent (Aleksandar Vukic).
FALLEN SEEDS ON THE FIRST TWO DAYS
[29] Linda Noskova won the first set but lost her way in the second set and never recovered. Clara Tauson won 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. [10] Grigor Dimitrov retired in the second set after losing the first set. Lucky loser Francesco Passaro moved into round two with the 7-5, 2-1 [RET] victory.
[11] Stefanos Tsitsipas lost in four sets to the American, Alex Michelsen. Michelsen won the first two sets and Tsitsipas won the third. However, the American was not going to miss this opportunity. He righted his ship to win the match 7-5, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. [16] Jelena Ostapenko lost to former top ten, Belinda Bencic. Bencic won 6-3, 7-6(6).

[21] Victoria Azarenka lost to Lucia Bronzetti and is out of the 2025 Australian Open. The Italian won 6-2, 7-6(2). [23] Alejandro Tabilo could not hold on to his lead. Roberto Carballes Baena fought back to win 1-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-6(1). Despite leading 2:1 in the match, [28] Sebatian Baez could not secure the victory. His heavily bandaged right knee was not ready for the brutal reality of playing on hard court under the hot sun. The Argentinian lost in five sets to Arthur Cazaux.
