Tien turned professional in 2023. He is currently ranked one hundred and twenty-one. Medvedev did not see this one coming. [4] Taylor Fritz made easy work of Cristian Garin, 6-2, 6-1, 6-0 and was off the court in less than an hour and a half. [8] Emma Navarro had another battle on her hands against Xiyu Wang. She had to go three sets to claim the 6-3, 3-6, 6- 4 victory.

Other American Winners On Day 5

[10] Danielle Collins was her usual fiery self in her defeat of Australian, Destanee Aiava. Despite winning the first in the tiebreak, Collins could not keep the momentum going. However, she righted the ship in the third set to win 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-2. Collins told the crowd exactly what they could do after she won the match. [19] Madison Keys had herself a battle against Elena-Gabriela Ruse. Keys was pushed to three sets, before she could claim the 7-6(1), 2-6, 7-5 victory. How much did this take from Keys and how will she show up in her next match? [31] Ben Shelton got a little test, which he passed with his 6-3, 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-4 defeat of Pablo Carreno Busta.

Another win for Alex Michelsen, who played the wild card, James McCabe. Not a bad performance from the Australian, but not good enough to defeat the American. Michelsen won 7-5, 6-3, 7-6(4). Marcos Giron had to grind out another tough victory. This time it was a five-set victory over Tomas Martin Etcheverry 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.

Frances Tiafoe Amongst Day 5 Fallen Seeds

[17] Frances Tiafoe could not capitalize on his lead, and he fizzled in the end to lose the match. Fabian Marozsan won 6-7(3), 6-4, 3-6,6-4, 6-1. Miomir Kecmanovic has bounced back nicely from his grueling first round match, where he needed five sets to secure the victory. Surprisingly, he was the fresher of the two even though [18] Hubert Hurkacz won his first round match relatively easily. He did not put up much of a fight against Kecmanovic. The Serbian won 6-4, 6-4,6-2.

[22] Katie Boulter lost to Veronika Kudermetova 6-7(3), 6-2, 2-6. Kudermetova has been struggling to find consistency in quality play; thus, this victory will go a long way to boosting her confidence.
