I am American and everyone knows that Pete Sampras was the tennis player I admired most for decades. While Sampras will always hold a special place in my heart, I must honestly say that Rafael Nadal also has dibs on my heart. Of course, the man who really comes first in my heart will always be my husband, my green-eyed Canadian hunk. Now that we have made that clear, let’s get back to tennis.
His Style Of Play Was Distinctively Rafa
There was a style, a determination, a dedication, and an execution that was uniquely Rafael Nadal’s. He embodied much of the character traits that made him excel on the tennis court as a player, but off the tennis court as a person. I have never met him personally; however, I was lucky enough to see him play live. Nadal did not disappoint, because his attitude of never giving up was on full exhibition.

We know that his retirement was inevitable. I am happy that he has finally realized that his body can no longer take the abuse required to produce his style and quality of tennis. Nevertheless, I am still sad to see him leave because tennis is truly losing an icon. His respect for the game is unprecedented. I can never recall Rafael Nadal breaking a racquet in anger or frustration. He treated all his opponents with respect and never took any of them for granted. Perhaps he lingered a tad too long, but it’s understandable, he loved tennis!
Rafael Nadal Has A New Chapter In His Story
He will be missed by us here at Serve And Rally. Who am I going to talk about with my tennis friends? I have nothing against the new batch of tennis players, but I do not see the same level of commitment to quality and consistent tennis. Rafael Nadal is a husband, dad, and businessman. He will have plenty to keep him busy in this next stage of his journey. We wish him all the best.
