Sofia Kenin Makes Good Use Of Wild Card In Tokyo

Sofia Kenin

Sofia Kenin has won a major, the Australian Open, in 2020. In addition, she was a finalist at Roland Garros in that same year. How did she end up outside the top hundred and struggling to get back to a main draw? As usual, it was injury; she had an ongoing foot problem, had an appendectomy, and even had covid-19 at one point. The problem with injury/illness is that it not only damages the body, but it also takes a toll emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. It is hard to give your best, no matter how good and determined you are when you are exhausted. We saw that with Kenin as she lost matches badly on her road back.

Sofia Kenin Looking Good Late In 2024

It was nice to see Sofia Kenin back in a final and this result should inspire her and remind her that she is still capable of competing with the top players. Sure, she would love to have walked away with the Toray Pan Pacific title, but she will have to settle for a final showing. This is good place to start the 2025 season and hopefully she will not lose her momentum over the layoff. Look at what she accomplished with the gift of a wild card. Her funky serve is still present, but it won her a major and she does not seem inclined to change it.
