Jessica Pegula Finally Gets Over the Quarterfinal Hurdle

Jessica Pegula

[6] Jessica Pegula is into her first major semifinal and what a place to do so. On home soil at the US Open on the biggest stage and in prime time, she dominated the number one player on the WTA Tour. [1] Iga Swiatek exposed to the world her dislike of fast courts and Pegula capitalized. In the first set, Swiatek could do nothing right, while Pegula could do nothing wrong. However, this is tennis and Swiatek is the number one player in the world, who has several major titles in her back pocket, while the American had never gotten past the quarterfinals in six previous attempts.

Jessica Pegula Never Stopped Believing

Swiatek pushed back in the second set; however, Pegula stayed calm, cool, and collected and just kept applying the screws until Swiatek eventually cracked. She believed she had what it took to win this match and get to the semifinals. Jessica Pegula was mighty fed-up with the question of why she could not get past the quarterfinals and perhaps that was the impetus this time around to get it done. She certainly did it in style, winning 6-2, 6-4. Next up for the American is a dangerous player, Karolina Muchova. It is usually the next match after a big win that you let your guard down. Unfortunately for Pegula, she must keep her focus because in their only encounter, Muchova pushed her to three sets. This is a major, where everyone tries extra hard to get to the final, so do not expect that Muchova will just roll over.

For a moment, we thought [5] Daniil Medvedev would pull a rabbit out of his racquet bag, but after winning the second set to even the match, [1] Jannik Sinner was not interested in losing. The Italian ATP number one player won 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4. Who can stop Sinner? [25] Jack Draper got the bigger win of his career when he defeated [10] Alex de Minaur 6-3, 7-5, 6-2. In three previous encounters, the British player always came out on the losing end. However, he was close a few times and he put it all together quite nicely yesterday, and did not give his opponent a single set. Will Draper be able to stop Sinner?
