Emma Navarro Ends Coco Gauff’s US Open Title Defense

[13] Emma Navarro knew it would be a battle against country woman, [3] Coco Gauff. This would be their third encounter in 2024, and they were tied 1:1. Although Navarro won their most recent encounter, she knew Gauff despite being low on confidence would not be a push over. Emma Navarro has been on a high since winning her first title this season and was ready for the challenge. It did not disappoint. Unfortunately, Gauff could not overcome Navarro, who won 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Navarro ended Gauff’s bid to defend her US Open title.

American Men Making A Statement

[12] Taylor Fritz is hoping that this is his year. He had never defeated [8] Casper Ruud in two previous encounters; however, there is always a first time. Home soil was the inspiration Fritz needed, and he found his “A” game after dropping the first set. This time Fritz would not be defeated, and he won 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2. [20] Frances Tiafoe has come alive late in the season and is playing some of his best tennis. He did what [2] Novak Djokovic could not do, defeated [28] Alexei Popyrin. Tiafoe got off to a great start winning the first two sets before Popyrin could get his bearings. However, the American was not to be denied and he came back in the fourth set to win 6-4, 7-6(3), 2-6, 6-3.

How The Other Seeds Fared On Day Seven

[7] Qinwen Zheng defeated [24] Donna Vekic 7-6(2), 6-4, 6-2. [9] Grigor Dimitrov is also hoping this will be the tournament where he wins his first major title. It is now a wide-open field where the two top favorites are no longer present as they both lost in the second round. Although [6] Andrey Rublev fought back to win the third and fourth sets, he could not overcome a determined Dimitrov, who won 6-3, 7-6(3), 1-6, 3-6, 6-3.
