The Spotlight Was On Coco Gauff On Day One

Coco Gauff

Everyone wanted to see how Coco Gauff would show up, given her recent run of patchy play. [3] Coco Gauff had an easy day at the office, which was a much-needed boost for her confidence. She defeated Varvara Gracheva 6-2, 6-0. While it was not a great match as Gracheva seemed to be the deer stuck in the proverbial headlights, Gauff still had to win the points. Gauff served well and her flaky forehand did not get a chance to disrupt her game. [13] Emma Navarro defeated Anna Blinkova 6-1, 6-1. [14] Madison Keys defeated Katerina Siniakova 6-4, 6-1. Peyton Stearns defeated Lesia Tsurenko 6-1, 7-5. Taylor Townsend defeated Martina Trevisan 6-2, 7-5. [389] Iva Jovic, who is just sixteen years old, defeated Magna Linette 6-4, 6-3.

Seeds Who Were Ousted On Day One

[9] Maria Sakkari lost due to injury 2-6, to Yafan Wang. American McCartney Kessler upset, [19] Marta Kostyuk. Kessler won 6-2, 6-3. [32] Dayana Yastremska made it into the main draw last year by getting through the qualifying rounds and this year she was a seed. How quickly things can change; however, she did not reap any benefit for being a seed as she was ousted by Jule Niemeier in three tough sets. Niemeier won 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-4.

[15] Holger Rune fell easily to American, Brandon Nakashima. The struggles continue for Rune to find some consistency in his game. The American won 6-2, 6-1, 6-4. [27] Alexander Bublik continues to under-inspire. Despite a boatload of talent and skill, he can get to the court and simply not play his best. Is it intentional, or does he truly struggle with game time performance anxiety? Bublik lost to Juncheng Shang, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 4-6.
