[12] Taylor Fritz defeated Matteo Berrettini 6-3, 7-6(1), 6-1. It is no surprise that there was a tiebreak set, three out of their four matches contested had at least one tiebreaker. Next up for Taylor Fritz is the unknown Argentinian, Francisco Comesana. [13] Ben Shelton defeated Roberto Bautista Agut, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. [20] Frances Tiafoe also had an easy day at the office. Tiafoe won 6-4, 6-1, 1-0 when Alexander Shevchenko retired in the third set. Brandon Nakashima defeated Arthur Cazaux 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.

Tatjana Maria immediately broke back to even the match and fought valiantly the first set. Her game has never been one of power, instead it is one of guile and for a while she got into Gauff’s head. However, Gauff is a champion, and she eventually figured out and executed her plan to win 6-4, 6-0. [13] Emma Navarro defeated veteran Arantxa Rus 6-1, 6-1. [14] Madison Keys made easy work of Maya Joint. Keys took a bit to find her rhythm in the first set, but once she got going, Joint could not stop her. Keys won 6-4, 6-0.

[8] Barbora Krejcikova lost to Elena-Gabriela Ruse. That was a bit of a surprise, but then again, it was not that surprising. Ruse won 6-4, 7-5. [12] Daria Kasatkina ran into American Peyton Stearns in the second round. Stearns ran away with the first set; however, Kasatkina fought to make the second set competitive. She still lost though 1-6, 6-7(3).
[17] Ugo Humbert lost to Francisco Comesana after winning the first set 7-5. The Argentinian found his rhythm and came back to win the next three sets, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. [21] Sebastian Baez retired, 1-6, 2-2, in his match against Tallon Griekspoor. [29] Francisco Cerundolo lost to fellow country man, Tomas Martin Etcheverry, in a five-set battle. Etcheverry won 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
