Emma Raducanu Is Denied Another US Open Cinderella Run

Emma Raducanu

Emma Raducanu could not overcome a determined Sofia Kenin. Kenin got off quickly to win the first set 6-1; however, Raducanu fought back to even the match by winning the second set 6-3. Kenin stole the third set 6-4 to seal the victory. Ashlyn Krueger would not be discouraged. Despite getting bageled in the first set by Shuai Zhang, the American came storming back to capture the second set 6-1. The third set was up for grabs, and it was a battle, which was won by the American 7-5. Thirty-eight-year-old Varvara Lepchenko is still competing in singles. Currently ranked 199, she moved on to the second round when her opponent retired.

[6] Jessica Pegula disposed of fellow American, Shelby Rogers. This was Rogers last career match. Pegula won 6-4, 6-3. Caroline Dolehide got the better of her country woman, [11] Danielle Collins. In six previous encounters, Collins lost once. None of their six previous matches has ever gone to three sets. Thus, this would be a first, which was surprising since Collins completely dominated the first set. A belief and a desire to win spurred Dolehide on to the 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory.
