Last night he put it all together and scored the biggest upset of his career. Popyrin went up two sets and then Djokovic came back in the third. Had the momentum shifted? No, Alexei Popyrin was up for the challenge and this time, he dug deep into his physical and mental reserves and won 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.

American Winners On Day Five

[3] Coco Gauff defeated [27] Elina Svitolina. Gauff was tested and had to fight back after dropping the first set. She won 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. [13] Emma Navarro defeated [19] Marta Kostyuk in three sets. Navarro won 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 and will face off against Gauff in the next round, which could be very interesting.

[12] Taylor Fritz defeated Francisco Comesana 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. [20] Frances Tiafoe finally found a way to defeat [13] Ben Shelton. Despite going up two sets to one, Shelton could not seal the deal. Tiafoe brought it and won 4-6, 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-3. Awesome win for Brandon Nakashima, who seemed to have rediscovered his “A” game. He defeated [18] Lorenzo Musetti 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(4).

The Other Seeds That Lost On Day Five

It is that time in the tournament, when seeded players face each other; therefore, expect some seeds to fall. [2] Aryna Sabalenka defeated [29] Ekaterina Alexandrova 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. [6] Andrey Rublev had a much easier day at the office today. He dispatched [32] Jiri Lehecka 6-3, 7-5, 6-4. American [14] Madison Keys will have to wait until next year to get another chance to get back to the final. She lost 7-6(5), 5-7, 4-6 to the veteran [33] Elise Mertens. Keys should have won this match! Yafan Wang scored an upset. She defeated [20] Victoria Azarenka 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
