Alcaraz Unable To Tame His Mind Against Botic van de Zandschulp

[3] Carlos Alcaraz had never lost a set to Botic van de Zandschulp in their two previous matches. What happened last night? It is well known that success is 80% mental and 20% physical. Thus, we have always got to make sure our mind is renewed and healthy in every moment. When we bog down our minds with doubts, thoughts about past mistakes, and criticism, it will be impossible to execute a plan successfully. Thus, it is not a surprise that Alcaraz lost his match. He is still thinking about losing the gold medal and that disappointment is spewing over into everything right now. Then again perhaps it is the realization that he is not invincible.

Van de Zandschulp Upends Carlos Alcaraz

Botic van de Zandschulp defeated Alcaraz in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5, 6-4. The only competitive set was set two and perhaps if he had won that set, there would be a different ending. However, he did not and that is the end of his US Open, which leaves the door wide open for [2] Novak Djokovic to win his twenty-fifth major title.

American Successes On Day Four

[6] Jessica Pegula got the better of fellow country woman, Sofia Kenin. The victor was decided in the first set. After losing the first set the fight went out of Kenin. Pegula won 7-6(4), 6-3. Ashlyn Krueger defeated [21] Mirra Andreeva quite easily. Krueger won 6-1, 6-4 in a little over an hour. [14] Tommy Paul defeated Max Purcell by retirement, 7-5, 6-0, 1-0.

American Successes In Doubles

[13] Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow upended fellow Americans Krueger and Stalder 6-7(7), 7-5, 6-4. Carmen Corley and Iva Corley upset the team of Alexandrova and Blinkova 61, 6-3. Robert Cash and JJ Tracy defeated the team of Shevchenko and Weissborn 6-3, 6-4.

How The Other Seeds Fared On Day Four

[4] Elena Rybakina did not contest her match; thus, Jessika Ponchet won by a walkover. [7] Hubert Hurkacz fell is straight sets to the Jordan Thompson. Thompson won 7-6(2), 6-1, 7-5. [24] Arthur Fils lost to Gabriel Diallo, who is ranked 143. Now, this was a surprise. Diallo won 7-5, 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-4. [31] Katie Boulter was upset by Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in straight sets, 5-7, 5-7.
