American women are doing well in the rankings. There are currently three American women in the top ten, led by Coco Gauff, who is the youngest of the three. The two oldest are Danielle Collins and Jessica Pegula. Why are the American women having more consistent success in the top ten than the men? While there are five American men currently in the top twenty, they cannot seem to play consistent quality tennis week in and week out to get to the top ten and remain in the top ten. Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe have flirted with the top ten in recent years.

There is one major left in the season and two Masters 1000 events, if they can step up their game there can be at least two American men who end their season ranked in the top ten. I am not holding my breath though because they have just not stepped up when opportunity presented itself. Nevertheless, we as fans can continue to hope. The question I want answered is, what is motivating the American men?
