Matteo Berrettini Is Back In The Winner’s Circle

Matteo Berrettini

Matteo Berrettini has been struggling with injury since 2020. He had a hernia/groin injury in 2020. Then he had a right hand injury which required surgery in March 2022. He has been frustrated with his progress since his return to the tour; thus, this victory on clay will go a long way to easing his frustration.

Berrettini Wins First Title Since 2022

Roberto Carballes Baena pushed the Italian in the first set. However, once Matteo Berrettini secured the first set, he relaxed and unleashed his power to dominate the second set. Baena could not break the Italian in the second set, which added to his frustration. In the end it was a straight set 7-5, 6-2 victory for the Italian. With this title in Marrakech, the Italian has eight career singles titles. Don’t forget Berrettini knows how to play on grass as well (he was the 2021 Wimbledon finalist).
