Leylah Fernandez Still Has Game

Leylah Fernandez

Leylah Fernandez reached a career high of thirteen in August 2022. In 2021 the Canadian shocked the world by getting to the final of the US Open. Then there was that dreaded thing that every athlete fears, or perhaps worries about, injury. In Fernandez’s case, it was a foot injury, a stress fracture. I have yet to decide which injury is worse for a tennis player: foot, wrist/hand, shoulder, or back?

Leylah Fernandez Is A Fighter

This may sound cliched, but some players speak their character by their performance on court. I have always admired the fight that the Canadian exhibits in all her matches. I get the impression that she does not take tennis and her talent for granted. She gives the proverbial 100% effort in every match, something so reminiscent of Rafael Nadal. Thus, it is so nice to see her back in the winner’s circle. Fernadez defeated Katerina Siniakova 3-6,6-4, 6-4 to claim the title in Hong Kong.
