[17] Madison Keys defeated Yanina Wickmayer 6-1, 6-2. No disrespect to Wickmayer, but she had nothing to hurt Keys with. Often the score can be misleading; however, not in this case. Keys was dominant, yet this could also be misleading. Keys knows what she needs to do to get back to the final. She has been there before, and there is nothing stopping Keys but herself. She has all the weapons. Although she still struggles with her movement, she can use her strengths to minimize her weakness.

Peyton Stearns defeated Clara Tauson. The American only dropped three games, winning 6-3, 6-0. Tauson is a competent player; however, she has been battling niggling injuries for a while now and cannot seem to gain any traction. Good thing for the Dane, she is still only twenty-years-old. I think she has promise, but we know that many players have promise, and ultimately fail to produce. [3] Jessica Pegula made easy work of Patricia Maria Tig in the night session. Pegula won 6-3, 6-1.

Tough day for the Americans, John Isner had to play fellow American, Michael Mmoh, if he wanted to get to round three. Although Isner started strong, he lost two important tiebreakers that cost him the match. Mmoh won 3-6, 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-4, 7-6(10-7). Another American also retired today, Jack Sock. I think as fans we must remember that each player is living THEIR life. We may have our expectations for them, but it is their life, and they have to live it. I wish both Isner and Sock the best in their future endeavors, may they find the same joy and peace I have in my new calling.
The Seeds Continue To Fall
[17] Hubert Hurkacz lost to the big hitting Brit, Jack Draper. The Brit won 6-2, 6-4, 7-5. I think Hurkacz can be greater than he is performing, I have the impression that he has not quite found his stride. Time is running out for [25] Karolina Pliskova. She has come so close to winning a major; however, she will not be getting her first major at the US Open. She has been a finalist at both Wimbledon and the US Open. Clara Burel easily dispatched of the Czech player, 6-4, 6-2.
