Roman Safiullin turned professional in 2015, which was eight years ago. It seems like a long time; however, that can be very misleading because he was only seventeen when turned professional. The days when teenage phenoms dominated tennis are long gone. We may occasionally see a teen phenom, but not at the level we had grown accustomed to with Bjorn Borg, Boris Becker, or Pete Sampras.
Much Is Expected Of Former #2 Junior
Sport fans grow to expect much from athletes, which can serve as an impetus for them to do better or can completely overwhelm a young athlete. Roman Safiullin is a former world number two junior; therefore, much is expected of him. His performance at Wimbledon showcased his ability on grass. He has been to two ATP tour semifinals on other surfaces; thus, with this recent result at a major we are beginning see evidence of his potential.
