Arantxa Rus, A Study In Perseverance

Arantxa Rus

Arantxa Rus did not give up. More important, Rus did not give up on herself. She believed and desired to be a professional tennis player and she persevered to claim her first WTA singles title at the age of thirty-two. I love to see people persevering. There is a fine line between perseverance and stubbornness; however, when you know that something is meant for you, you persevere despite the odds and setbacks.

Arantxa Rus Believed In Herself

Arantxa Rus believed. She played her first ITF match in 2005 (she was fifteen years old). In 2009 she made it to her first major main draw at Roland Garros. The furthest she has ever gone in the majors was the fourth round of the French Open. In 2012, Rus made it to the third round of Wimbledon. The furthest she has gone at the Australian and US Opens has been the second round.

When You Believe You Will Achieve

I am convinced it is not a lack of ability that prevents so many players from being successful on tour. I define success as winning a singles title. There have been tons of gifted players who retired without a title. Why? Buried deep inside is a belief that blocks them, a belief that they have held on too for a long time that is not true. However, because they believe it, it becomes their reality.
