Peyton Stearns turned professional in 2022. This was a week of firsts for the twenty-one-year-old American. Her first final on the WTA Tour and her first time in the top hundred. It’s all coming together nicely for this young lady. It would have been that much sweeter if she had won the title; however, if she keeps up this form, she will be winning titles sooner rather than later.
Brilliant Work From Stearns In Bogota
Stearns lost to the veteran Tatjana Maria playing on clay in Bogota. If she can do this well on clay, I will be curious to see how she performs on her favorite surface, hard. We saw a little of her game in Indian Wells, where she pushed Bianca Andreescu to three sets. Peyton Stearns is still a newbie to the pro scene and making it to her first final this early in her career will go a long way to settling the nerves and boosting the confidence.

The WTA continues to be a changing landscape. Currently it seems to be lacking a dominant leader. Iga Swiatek looked for a while like she was going to be the dominant face of the WTA Tour; however, she has looked a bit shaky of late. Nevertheless, the season is still young, and a lot can change between now and the end of the season. I am quite excited to see what unfolds, not only on the WTA but also on the ATP Tour.
