We expect as fans that Tommy Paul will do the unthinkable. However, Paul probably has more on his mind that the expectations of American fans. At twenty-five years old, the American is in his first major semifinals. Like most tennis players, he does not want to stop here. He will, however, have to go through [4] Novak Djokovic to get to his first major final.

First Meeting Between Tommy Paul And Djokovic

To get to the semifinals, Paul defeated the red-hot newcomer, American Ben Shelton. Shelton wowed American fans by getting this far in only his second major appearance. It looked for all the world that Paul would wrap up his match in three sets; however, never underestimate the negative influence of first-time jitters. Credit the young American, Shelton, who stepped up and stole the third set. Paul had to exert himself a little longer to win it 7-6(6), 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.

Novak Djokovic Continues To Dismantle The Field

Despite a bandage on his left thigh, the Serbian’s game has not been impacted. He is blowing past his opponents with little to no opposition. Surprisingly, his greatest resistance came from the qualifier, [191] Enzo Couacaud in the second round. Since then, it has been a dominant display of tennis from the Serb. The advantage of course goes to Djokovic; however, if Paul can believe enough and win the first set, he may have a chance to derail the apple cart.

Magda Linette Has Got To Be The Story Of The Open

[45] Magna Linette is having a Cinderella run at the 2023 Australian Open. Keep in mind that prior to this run, the Polish woman had never gone past the third round of a major. At thirty years young, she is in her first major semifinals after defeating [30] Karolin Pliskova 6-3, 7-5. Can she take this run all the way to the title? We have seen some strange results at the majors in recent years, so my response is why not. If Emma Raducanu can do it, why not Magda Linette?
