American Tommy Paul is into his first major quarterfinals. To get there he had to go through some stiff opposition. Perhaps [24] Roberto Bautista Agut came in a little depleted but take nothing away from the effort or result of the American, who still had to win it. Paul won 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.
Ben Shelton got past fellow countryman J.J. Wolf in a 5-set match that had so many twists and turns, it was mind boggling. There were three tiebreakers in the match and Shelton won the most important one, the one that won him the match. While it was in the fourth set, it took the wind out of Wolf’s sail. Shelton easily won the fifth set, 6-2 to get to his first major quarterfinals.
