Caroline Garcia Ends 2022 On A High

Caroline Garcia

Caroline Garcia was ranked number four in 2018 and then she lost her way, due in part to injury. However, she also lost clarity as well about her game. Fast forward to 2022 and Garcia in back in the top ten. Not only is she back in the top ten, but once again she is ranked number four.

Caroline Garcia Has Been Higher

Garcia is no stranger to being in the top two. In 2016, she was ranked number two in doubles. Now with renewed confidence and clarity about her style of play, the French player is kicking butts and taking names once again in singles. She ended the season by winning the WTA Finals, which propelled her back up the rankings.

WTA Changes At The Top

Iga Swiatek, Ons Jabeur, and Jessica Pegula remain at number one, two, and three respectively. Aryna Sabalenka climbs back up to number five. Maria Sabalenka fell one place to number six. The player who fell the most was American Coco Gauff. Gauff fell three places to number seven. There were no changes in the players at the positions from eight to ten.

The WTA Season Is Officially Over

While there is still tennis going on, it is lower tier events and most of the top players use this time to heal and recover. They also try to get mentally prepared for the grueling start of the next season, which begins in the East. Of course, as fans, we will be curious to see how the top players show up for their first events. Right up there will be curiosity about which player will take the spotlight in the 2023 season. Then of course, how will some of the promising younger players perform.

Eyes Will Be On Gauff And Raducanu

While there are other promising players that I can mention, these two came immediately to mind. In part because they showed so much promise but have been struggling lately to find their form. Will Coco Gauff fix the glitch in her serve and confidence? Can Emma Raducanu find and stick with a coach for more than six months?
