Jessica Pegula was determined to come out on the winning side of her match on a day when Americans struggled. In a match that lasted a little over two hours, the American fought off Yue Yuan. The other opponents on the court are often nerves and weather conditions, sometimes there may also be an injury. Today, the nerves affected Yuan early and then the weather conditions got her in the final set. Pegula showed her stamina and fitness. Despite losing the second set in a tiebreaker, Pegula regrouped nicely in the third to win the match 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-0.
Other American Winners Besides Jessica Pegula
[14] Diego Schwartzman served for the first set against [22] Frances Tiafoe, he even had set point at 5-2 and 5-4 up. Schwartzman would serve for the match again at 6-5 up; yet, so often in tennis, players struggle to serve out a set and it can cost them dearly as it did Serena Williams last night.

Schwartzman would not go down without a fight, so Tiafoe had to be on the alert. At 3-2 up in the third set, the American lost his focus and that was all his opponent needed to break back and even the set 3-3. However, Tiafoe would break back at 4-4 to go up 5-4 and this time he did not squander his lead. The American won 7-6(7), 6-4, 6-4.
