This has been a long time in the making for this Croatian-born American tennis player, who turned professional in 2009. Some players just capture your attention when you watch them play, and that is what happened when I first saw Bernarda Pera playing. She has such easy power. She is also one of the fittest players on tour and over the years, I have wondered why she has struggled to cross the finish line.
What has changed in Bernarda Pera’s game that is making her a champion on the WTA Tour in 2022? I am not sure, but the one thing I know is that winning breeds winning. Bernarda Pera have convinced herself and proven to the world that she can win titles.
Pera Not Satisfied With One Title
Pera made her first WTA Tour singles final on July 17th, 2022, and she walked away with the Hungarian title. More impressive, she came all the way from the qualifying rounds and won the title without dropping a set. What does Pera do next? One week later, the American player is in her second consecutive WTA Tour final.
The American Is Two For Two in 2022
The road to Pera’s second title had a bigger obstacle. Completely unfazed, Pera was up to the challenge for the second week in a row. She defeated the number two ranked player, Anett Kontaveit, in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. Interesting, for the second tournament in a row, she did not drop a set en route to the title. By the way folks, she did not give her opponents any opportunity to believe they had a chance at victory. The most games she surrendered in any set was four. For every round she played, she won at least one set 6-0, 6-1, or 6-2.
Bernarda Pera Has Found The Winning Formula
Pera exacted a little revenge against Kontaveit to claim her second title. The American lost in straight sets to the Estonian at this year’s Wimbledon. There is no reason why she cannot continue to climb up the rankings. I am excited to see her efforts bearing fruit and will continue to follow as this young lady’s game continues to unfold. What will Pera do next?
