Amanda Anisimova Into 2nd Week Of Wimbledon

There is one American woman left in the draw, and it is not [11] Coco Gauff. [20] Amanda Anisimova is making her debut in the second week of Wimbledon. It was an extremely competitive first set, as each player battled for supremacy. Gauff got off to a 3-0 lead, but Anisimova fought back to even the set and then take the 4-3 lead. However, Gauff broke back to even the set and send it to a tiebreaker, which she won 7-4.

Amanda Anisimova Shook Off The Nerves

The first set should probably have gone to Anisimova, but she took control in set two and never relinquished it. As Anisimova settled into the match, Gauff began to unravel.  Gauff struggled with her serve, which resulted in her being broken three times. The tension was clearly mounting internally, and it was manifesting in the area where she has been struggling recently, her serve.

Could Coco Gauff Shake Off The Tension?

No! Despite improving her serve in the final set, she was no match for the focused Anisimova. Amanda Anisimova just continued to go for her shots and her power game was too much for her opponent. It was a contrast of winners flying off her racquet against errors flying off the racquet of Gauff. Anisimova won 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-1.

Four American Men Into Week Two

While there is only one woman left in the singles draw, there are four men into the second week of Wimbledon.  [11] Taylor Fritz will face the resurgent qualifier, Jason Kubler, who dispatched of American Jack Sock in five sets. [23] Frances Tiafoe will go up against David Goffin, while [30] Tommy Paul will face off against [9] Cameron Norrie. Young Brandon Nakashima will have the unenviable task of playing Nick Kyrgios.

Alize Cornet Gets The Upset Of The Year

Alize Cornet has a reputation for beating the number one seeds. In fact, she was a particular thorn in Serena Williams posterior for years. Cornet had nothing to lose today against [1] Iga Swiatek. Meanwhile, Swiatek had her thirty-seven consecutive match streak on the line. Did anyone predict this upset? Some commentators suggested that there was evidence that Swiatek was not feeling quite confident on the grass. Today it was evident as she was thoroughly outplayed by the Frenchwoman. Cornet is thirty-two-years-old, and her highest rank was eleven, but that did not stop her from defeating the dominant number one ranked player 6-4, 6-2.
