Does Serena Williams have a realistic chance at the Wimbledon title? No! Let’s be realistic. She has not competed at a professional level for almost a year. In the interim, the players have changed. Williams is not as young as she used to be and frankly, her fitness is questionable. Before you think I do not like Serena Williams, think again. I actually am quite proud of what she has accomplished as a tennis player.
The Skills Required To Succeed At Wimbledon
There are several weapons require for success at Wimbledon: a big serve does not hurt, but preferably precision with their serve is key; the ability to change up their game with different spins, slicing the ball, volleys, drop shots, using the angles effectively, and lobs; movement; and power. At this stage in her career, Serena Williams has the power and serve. How far can she go when her opponents start slicing and dicing and mixing things up with some drop shots?

I am not writing off Harmony Tan as easily as some of the commentators. If you have seen this French player, she has a very disruptive style of play that can cause problems for Williams. If Tan can stay injury free and ignore the nerves associated with playing Serena Williams, I think she can upset the American in round one.
Serena Williams Is Lacking In Match Play
While she may have played two doubles match recently, it is a totally different scenario playing singles. Williams will be responsible for the whole court and based on what I saw, I do not think she is physically ready to compete at that level in singles. She may squeeze by Harmony Tan based on her name, but she will have to bring more than her name if she wants to go deep in the draw. They say anything is possible and perhaps now that no one really believes she can win this, the pressure may be off. This is her swan song; she will play this and announce her retirement. What do you think?
