Naomi Osaka, A Star Whose Shine Is Fading?

Naomi Osaka

In 2015 I went to the WTA Finals in Singapore, and I saw two young players competing: one was Caroline Garcia, and the other was Naomi Osaka. I told my husband Osaka has a lot of talent and firepower; however, her attitude was “questionable.”

Naomi Osaka Is A Gifted Young Lady

There is a saying, “to whom much is given, much is also expected.” It’s a fact and unfortunately, some people cannot handle the expectations. I am by no means discounting her mental struggles for as a physician, I am well aware of the toll emotional and mental issues can have on a person’s quality of life. I think there should be a program for all athletes where they are thought how to cope better with the emotions, negative and positive, that comes with winning and losing. How to set realistic goals and how to adapt when those goes take a while to be accomplished.

Preparing Your Child For Potential Success

It may be difficult for some parents to do this if they have never experienced success. It may be difficult if they are trying to shield the child from the pressure of expectation; yet, in doing so, they may do more harm than good. My impression of Naomi Osaka when I first saw her was that she was a spoiled brat, who knew she was gifted and expected everyone to cater to her demands. Listen folks, I never met the young lady, and I could be totally wrong. Maybe that was her defense mechanism.

Osaka Is Struggling To Come To Terms

There is too much noise, and Naomi Osaka needs to get away from all of the distractions. Those distractions include the media, social media, her commitments to all the sponsors giving her big bucks, and tennis. She needs to go someplace quiet and sit with HERSELF. She needs to rediscover who she is and what she GENUINELY enjoys. Perhaps it may be tennis, and perhaps it may be something else. If she is not playing tennis for herself, she will continue to unravel right before our very eyes.

Naomi Osaka Is Not Playing At Wimbledon, Again

It is not a surprise. While she may indeed have an Achilles tendon issue, that is not the reason she has withdrawn for the second year from the grass court tournament. Some players become famous and stars of the sport because they shine on the tennis court. It’s sad to see the Japanese playing struggling this much to be the shining star she used to be on the court. This young lady needs to rediscover her JOY!
