Emma Raducanu Amongst Fallen Women Seeds
[10] Emma Raducanu could not duplicate her result from last year. This year she loses in the second round 3-6, 3-6, to Caroline Garcia. The number two seed, Anett Kontaveit, fell in straight sets, 4-6,0-6, to Jule Niemeier in less than sixty minutes. [9] Garbine Muguruza continues to struggle and today she lost 4-6, 0-6 to Greet Minnen. [29] Anhelina Kalinina loses to the resurgent Lesia Tsurenko. Tatjana Maria defeated [26] Sorana Cirstea 6-3, 1-6, 7-5.
Casper Ruud, Highest Men’s Seed To Fall
Ugo Humbert upended the third seed, Casper Ruud, in four sets. Ruud got off to a good start winning the first set, but then the wheels came off. Although he fought to the end, Humbert was not in any mood to relinquish this victory. The Frenchman won 3-6, 6-2, 7-5, 6-4. [31] Sebastian Baez loses to former top ten player, David Goffin. Goffin won 6-1, 6-2, 6-4.

[8] Jessica Pegula defeated Donna Vekic 6-3, 7-6(2). [20] John Isner defeated Andy Murray 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-7(3), 6-4. With Murray losing to Isner, both British favorites are gone from the Wimbledon tournament. It is somewhat interesting that they both lost on the same day. [23] Frances Tiafoe defeated Maximilian Marterer 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(3). [28] Alison Riske defeated Maja Chwalinska 3-6, 6-1, 6-0. [30] Tommy Paul continues to play well on grass. Today he defeated Adrian Mannarino quite easily 6-2, 6-4, 6-1. Steve Johnson defeated Ryan Peniston 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.
Matteo Berrettini Withdraws From The Tournament
Last year’s finalist, Matteo Berrettini, was forced to withdraw from the tournament because he tested positive for the coronavirus. The Italian is one of the players whose ranking will take a dive because Wimbledon is not giving any ranking points to any of the participants. Thus, in a weird way, his not being able to continue did not make the situation worse as far as his ranking goes. We do wish him a speedy and full recovery.
