2021 French Open finalist, Stefanos Tsitsipas, had his day ruined by nineteen-year-old, Holger Rune. Making his Roland Garros debut, Holger Rune made the news when he dispatched of [14] Denis Shapovalov in the first round. Currently ranked forty, every victory will only boost his ranking.
Stefanos Tsitsipas Ran Into A Determined Dane
If you have been following tennis lately, you know that Holger Rune is quite ambitious. He is quite a perfectionist and determined to get to the top. To get to the top by default requires that you go through the top ranked players and Rune showed us today that he is up to the challenge. The first set was a battle for control and the Dane had to fight through some nerves but won the first set 7-5.

Rune expected his opponent to fight back, and he did so in set two. In contrast to the first set, Rune was unable to capitalize on any of his break point opportunities. Meanwhile, his opponent took full advantage of his one opportunity to break, thereby stealing the second set. With the match tied 1:1, the momentum should have swung to the side of the Greek; however, it did not. Rune tightened up his game and took the third set with one break of serve.
Holger Rune Had Tsitsipas Against The Ropes
It was time to dig deep for both players. Rune had to keep his level and focus, and the match would be his. On the opposite side, his opponent knew that he needed to win this set if he wanted a chance to win in five. Rune got off to a head start, but Tsitsipas fought back, as expected. It was impressive to see the young Dane fighting through his nerves to cross the finish line with the 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory.
