Many expected [12] Emma Raducanu to go deep in the draw, after all she pulled a rabbit out of her hat last year at the US Open. Unfortunately, it was not to be at Roland Garros. Raducanu won the first set, but that did not disturb her opponent. Aliaksandra Sasnovich came roaring back in style to upend the applecart 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.

Day 4 American Success Stories At Roland Garros

[18] Coco Gauff defeated her opponent, Alison Van Uytvanck, 6-1, 7-6(4). It got a little sticky in the second set, but kudos to Gauff for fighting through the nerves. [23] John Isner defeated Gregoire Barrere 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(5). [27] Amanda Anisimova continued her winning ways, defeating Donna Vekic 6-4, 6-1. How far will Anisimova go? She will have to get by the resurgent Karolina Muchova.

[27] Sebastian Korda puts an end to Richard Gasquet’s French Open. The American won 7-6(5), 6-3, 6-3. Gasquet has announced that this will be his last year of professional tennis. Brandon Nakashima defeated Tallon Griekspoor 7-6(6), 6-4, 6-2. In his debut French Open, Nakashima has gone the furthest in a major main draw. Unfortunately for the American, he gets [3] Alexander Zverev next.

[4] Maria Sakkari ran into the resurgent Karolina Muchova. Muchova upset Sakkari in two tiebreak sets, 7-6(5), 7-6(4). [13] Taylor Fritz lost in four sets. Despite winning the first set, the American could not sustain his momentum as [131] Bernabe Zapata Miralles came roaring back to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3. Sloane Stephens looks like she has rediscovered her love of tennis. After dropping the first set to [26] Sorana Cirstea, Stephens took control and won 3-6, 6-2, 6-0. [32] Petra Kvitova lost 4-6, 2-6 to Daria Gavrilova-Saville.
