Everyone remembers the splash Bianca Andreescu made on the scene in 2019. She was red hot for a season, foiling Serena Williams’ plan to gain that illusive major title number twenty-four at the US Open. It was the second consecutive final showing at the US Open that Williams lost. Many of Williams’ fans will never forget this. It was a bittersweet victory for me, who is a fan of Williams’ game. However, I was torn as my husband is Canadian and I cheer for all the Canadian players as well.
Injury Has Plagued Andreescu’s Career
Let’s not forget, she’s still only twenty-one years old. Plenty of time for the Canadian to recover her form if she can stay injury free [shoulder and knee]. It has been one injury after another for the Canadian. Sometimes you wonder if her body just was not meant to take the physical demands of a tennis player. The problem with having so many injuries, is you may struggle to focus fully in matches. There is probably some fear of another injury, which hampers her game.
The Newness Has Worn Off Her Style Of Play
Now, many players have become familiar with her style of play. Can she make enough changes to become a consistent threat once again? It’s hard to say. She does not seem to be moving as well as she did. Perhaps she will recover her form, only time will tell.
