Stefanos Tsitsipas Had The H2H Advantage

Stefanos Tsitsipas had the advantage in ranking and head-to-head. Leading 5:2, the Greek player after losing their first two encounters had figured out how to beat Felix Auger-Aliassime. One of the finals that the Canadian lost was to Tsitsipas in 2020 in Marseille. Today, there was more than revenge on the Canadian’s mind.

Canadian Gets The Monkey Off His Back

He was prepared this time to stop the trend of getting to finals without winning a set. The Canadian accomplished that today when he won the first set 6-4. He protected his serve with brilliant serving, never giving his opponent any opportunity to break his serve. Auger-Aliassime also had a much better percentage on second serves won. The Canadian also capitalized on his second break point opportunity to steal the first set. Once he had that in his bag, he relaxed a little and went for his shots with a bit more ferocity.

He never gave Tsitsipas an opportunity to break. He continued his brilliant serving in set two and broke his opponent twice.  We know about his serve and forehand, but he also played some impressive volleys. The Ninth Time Lucky For The Canadian

He can lift the trophy with pride because he has still accomplished what many other professional tennis players never accomplished.
