There is no doubt that Garbine Muguruza is a talented tennis player. The surprise for many may be that she has not won more majors and titles; however, one never knows the forces that move a person. Slowly but sure, Muguruza has been rediscovering her top form.
Muguruza Still Has Game
In 2017, Garbine Muguruza was ranked number one, after flirting with the top ten since 2015. Everyone remembers that she beat Serena Williams to gain her first major title in 2016 at Roland Garros and felt for sure they would be seeing a lot more from the Spaniard. She went the rest of 2016 without winning a title and stunned the world again when she won Wimbledon in 2017. The roller coaster presentation of her ranking and performance is well known. In fact if you follow Garbine Muguruza, at times you may get so frustrated with her on court demeanor and be tempted to turn off the television. She did nothing in 2020; however, that’s probably not surprising as the tennis world was thrown into chaos.
Muguruza Rebounds In 2021
There were signs that she was gaining in confidence and rediscovering her top form; yet, the consistency was still missing. Thus, it is awesome to see her putting it all together to win three titles this season. She is the proud owner of the 2021 WTA Finals title, her biggest title since 2017. Granted the top ranked player was missing, but who will remember that. She played the field that she was given and came out on top with flying colors.
Will Muguruza Take This Form Into 2022?
Now the off-season can either be a good or a bad thing. If she loses her focus and momentum, it will be difficult to get the positive start in 2022. Let’s hope that the Spaniard comes out eager and ready to win the Australian Open and does not fade away again as she did in the past after winning a big title. Muguruza ends the 2021 season ranked number three.
