Donna Vekic Gets Mover Of The Week Honors

Donna Vekic has been slowly making her way back. Missing from action since the middle of February 2021, Vekic has had erratic results. Thus, it is nice to see the Croatian putting it all together and winning her first title since 2017. Her opponent was eighteen year old, Clara Tauson, the new Dane, who is also showing a promising start to her professional career. Vekic won the Courmayeur Ladies Open 2021 singles title without dropping a set.

Her reward for her impressive performance, was a boost in her ranking and the player of the week honors. Hopefully, she can continue to build on this despite the fact that the 2021 season is rapidly coming to an end. In any event, it is nice to end her season on a positive note.

ATP & WTA Top 100 Ranking Changes

Top 10 ATP & WTA Ranking Changes

ATP: there is a new member in the top ten, Jannik Sinner comes in at #9.  Dominic Thiem has fallen out of the top ten and Novak Djokovic is going strong at #1.

WTA: there were major shakeups in the top ten members. Belinda Bencic, Naomi Osaka, and Elina Svitolina fell out of the top ten to #17, #13 and #14 respectively. Anett Kontaveit becomes the newest top ten member at #8. Maria Sakkari and Ons Jabeur each moved up one spot to #6 and #7 respectively.  Angelique Kerber and Iga Swiatek are back in the top ten at #9 and #10 respectively. Barbora Krejcikova and Karolina Pliskova traded places to #3 and #4 respectively, and Ashleigh Barty remains at #1.

FYI: Serena Williams is currently ranked #41 and Venus Williams is ranked #170.

THE TOP 4 RANKED AMERICAN MEN:  John Isner [23]; Reilly Opelka [25]; Taylor Fritz [26]; and Sebastian Korda [39]. The last American man to be in the top ten was John Isner in May 2019.

THE TOP 4 RANKED AMERICAN WOMEN: Sofia Kenin [15]; Jessica Pegula [20]; Cori “Coco” Gauff [23]; and Jennifer Brady [25].
