In 2018, Alison Van Uytvanck was at a career high ranking of thirty-seven. Whenever you see a significant decline in a player’s ranking, often it is because of injury or failure to defend ranking points due to poor play. Although the Belgian had a long injury hiatus between 2016-2017, that was prior to this recent decline in ranking. Interestingly, she came back strong to win her first WTA singles title in 2017.
Alison Van Uytvanck can hold her head high because she is a quality player both in singles and doubles. This was a nice win for Belgian, who defeated the number one seed at the Astana Open to claim her fifth singles title, her first singles title since 2019.
