Jack Sock Heating Up Nicely
A nice win for Jack Sock against [31] Alexander Bublik. Good to see the American fit enough to compete at this level.[22] Reilly Opelka only needed one tiebreaker to defeat the Italian, Lorenzo Musetti, in straight sets. [23] Jessica Pegula also had an easy day at the office against Japanese, Misaki Doi. Shelby Rogers continues to play well; she had a tricky first set but righted the ship to win in two over Sorana Cirstea. Taylor Fritz lost to fellow countryman, Jenson Brooksby, in a four hour battle of wills. Of the thirteen Americans that competed today, less than fifty percent advanced to the next round.

When you get an opportunity in tennis to win the set, fight to win. American Amanda Anisimova gave everything she had against [4] Karolina Pliskova in a three-set battle, but just came up short in the end. Maxime Cressy was also not so fortunate. After battling hard in the first set, he still came up short in the three-sets loss to Nikoloz Basilashvili. Steve Johnson also came up short against [17] Gael Monfils in four sets. [6] Bianca Andreescu had a straight-sets victory over American Lauren Davis. Ernesto Escobedo lost in straight sets to the South African, Lloyd Harris. The run for American Zachary Svajda was short-lived. Although he competed well against [13] Jannik Sinner, it was not to be. Denis Kudla in a surprising lopsided match, lost in three to the German journeyman, Oscar Otte. Mackenzie McDonald had his chances against the former US Open finalist, Kei Nishikori, he simply ran out of gas in the fifth set.
Three Seeds Bit The Dust On Day 4
After dropping the first set easily, veteran Andreas Seppi stormed back to upset the tenth seed, Hubert Hurkacz, in four sets. [24] Paula Badosa lost in straight sets to Varvara Gracheva, which was a bit of an upset. However, Ajla Tomljanovic defeating [30] Petra Martic in straight sets was not an upset in my book. If Tomljanovic can stay healthy long enough, she can perhaps be the Cinderella Story of the US Open.
