Will Anyone Stop Novak Djokovic?
The Wimbledon 2021 draws are out and after reviewing them, I am left with the conviction that this 2021 Wimbledon title belongs to Novak Djokovic. No one else has stepped up big at Wimbledon and with Roger Federer showing he’s vulnerable, there is no one who can stop the Serb from winning major title number three in 2021. Now that is out of the way, let’s look at the women’s draw.
Top Half: 1st Quarter Women’s Draw
As the number one ranked player and seed, Ashleigh Barty will have her hands full. In her quarter she has the resurgent doubles experts, Katerina Siniakova and Barbora Krejcikova. Other potential threats are Bianca Andreescu, but she has not really done much on grass despite her ranking; and Johanna Konta, although she has lost some confidence in her game.
Second Quarter Women’s Draw
This quarter is led by the third seed, Elina Svitolina. There are also Belinda Bencic, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Cori Gauff, and Serena Williams in this quarter. Bad luck for Williams to be drawn in this half of the draw, which contains quite a few players who have beaten her before. Everyone gets pumped up for the majors, and a chance to get a victory against Serena Williams. Never mind that she is not at her best these days, it’s still considered a great accomplishment to defeat the seven time Wimbledon champion. Keep an eye on Karolina Muchova, the nineteenth seed, and Camila Giorgi.
Bottom Half: 3rd Quarter Women’s Draw
Despite her massive serve, Karolina Pliskova has only ever made it to the fourth round; yet, she is still a threat. The American Alison Riske can play on grass, but has she rediscovered her form following her injury. Tenth seed, Petra Kvitova, has won this twice, can she make it number three this year. Lack of practice on grass, injury, and a disrupted schedule has all combined to affect the rhythm and confidence of every player. Some players are handling the disruption better than others though. Keep an eye on the wild card, Liudmila Samsonova.
Fourth Quarter Women’s Draw
Aryna Sabalenka gets the honors as the number two seed. Not quite sure she is ready to carry the burden of this position. In her quarter is former champion and the eleventh seed, Garbine Muguruza. If Sabalenka can keep it together, she can get to the quarterfinals; yet, this is a major and an opportunity for everyone to shine. A potential obstacle is Elena Rybakina with her big serve.
