Liudmila Samsonova Claims First WTA Title
22 year old Liudmila Samsonova took advantage of her opportunities. Despite a heavily bandaged left thigh and a support on her right knee, she came prepared to battle. Battle she did against the sturdy threat posed by Belinda Bencic. In the end, it was not enough as the youngster claimed her first WTA singles title and a spot in the top hundred.
Coronavirus Changes Tennis’ Landscape
What an exciting time it is for the younger players of the sport. Tennis is going through a transition, that in many ways has been brought about because of the coronavirus pandemic. The impact of this pandemic will be felt for many years to come. Whether we choose to admit or accept it, that is the truth and our current reality. ATP: The top ten members remained the same this week, and there were no changes in their positions. Novak Djokovic remains at #1.
WTA: The top ten members remained the same. The only change was Elina Svitolina and Sofia Kenin trading places to #5 and #6 respectively. Ashleigh Barty remains at #1.
FYI: Kiki Bertens has announced that 2021 will be her last season. The twenty-nine year old got to a career high of #4 in 2019.
