On August 23rd, 1973, the ATP introduced the ranking system in men’s professional tennis. Recently there has been the addition of the UTR (universal tennis rating), which as far as I am concerned adds no particular value to the game and even complicates the issue.
Mover Of The Week: Reilly Opelka
However, we live in a world that often feels that it is necessary to fix what is not broken and ignore completely those things that are broken and need fixing, but I digress. This week’s mover of the week honors goes to American, Reilly Opelka.
Height, Reilly Opelka’s Advantage And Disadvantage
I have maintained that there is a body type for each sport. Keeping that in mind I often worry about the toll it takes on a body as tall as the American’s. He has a huge serve, which serves him well [pun intended]; however, his mobility is compromised by the height that gives him his serving advantage. Tennis is a game that requires mobility for success.
Americans Looking For The Men To Step Up
American tennis fans are desperately looking for the men to step up and stepping up is not just once in a while. We need to see consistency in their game week in and week out, which requires having clarity about their purpose as a tennis player. Also, believing enough in that purpose to make the sacrifice when things are not going as easy as expected. Who will step up?

FYI: Venus Williams has fallen out of the top hundred to #102.
QUESTION: Will the French Federation give Nadal the #2 seed for the 2021 French Open?
