MOVER OF THE WEEK: Danka Kovinic
At twenty-six years old, Danka Kovinic is trying to make a comeback. As so often happens in sports, she is recovering from injury. She had been in three previous finals, twice in 2016 and once in 2015, and she was hoping to win her first WTA singles title on her fourth attempt.
Once ranked as high as forty-six, Kovinic is trying to rediscover her form. She had some impressive victories in her run to the final of the Volvo Car Open. Perhaps the effort expended to get there was a bit too much because she had nothing left in the tank against the eventual champion, Veronika Kudermetova. The twenty-three old Russian would not be denied in claiming her first singles title on Tour.
Danka Kovinic will take the positives from this tournament and hope to build on them in her next event. Hopefully her left thigh injury is not too serious, and she will be able to play at Roland Garros.
