It’s that time of the year, the period between the end of another tennis season and the beginning of the next season. Most tennis fans are in limbo; however, there is a certain excitement in the air. The Holidays are here and while many people are getting ready to celebrate, many are also anticipating what their favorite tennis player or players will do in the 2020 season.
2019 Prominent Retirements
Let’s face it, most true tennis fans are simply excited about what the new tennis season will offer. Many are curious to see which player or players will make a breakthrough and perhaps steal the show. Which player or players will retire? Tomas Berdych, Dominika Cibulkova, and David Ferrer were a few prominent players amongst the many that retired in 2019. Rafael Nadal, the last of the fabled top four, finally got married.
Teenagers Steal the Spotlight
This year’s breakout player was fifteen-year-old American, Cori Gauff, and now much more is expected of the teenager. Will she live up to the hype? Can she take it to another level or is it too soon to expect so much from the still just only fifteen-year-old?
Will eighteen-year-old Jannik Sinner continue to steal the show on the men’s side and will Felix Auger-Aliassime win his first ATP Tour title in 2020?
Still Holding Out Hope
The question that burns in the hearts of many Serena Williams’ fans: Will 2020 be the season that she ties and breaks Margaret Court’s record? Or should we just forget about her breaking the record and appreciate what she has accomplished so far on the WTA Tour?
Wozniacki To Retire in 2020
Former WTA number one, Caroline Wozniacki, has announced that the 2020 Australian Open will be her last tournament. This was her sole major title, which she won in 2018. Her announcement comes as no surprise to many who have followed the charming Dane. She has been struggling ever since her diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis and at twenty-nine years old, why not. She is now a married woman and has so much more to look forward to. We will miss her smile.
