Mover Of The Week: Jelena Ostapenko
What has happened to Jelena Ostapenko’s game? Once ranked as high as number five, the 2017 Roland Garros champion is beginning to realize that she must fix her serve. Her serve has always been a liability; however, she protected it better by being more consistent with her ground strokes. Unfortunately, as her serve has continued to desert her, her confidence has dropped and she is losing more than she is winning, which further erodes her confidence. Now, her consistency off the ground is shaky as she has lost all confidence in her entire game. It is somewhat baffling why her team has never addressed the issue with her serve. To let it be a problem for this long is inexplicable. Hopefully Ostapenko and her team can fix her serve so that she can get back to playing the quality tennis we know she can produce.
