[9] Kiki Bertens (NED) was upset by [42] Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS): 6-3, 3-6, 3-6.
[20] Anett Kontaveit (EST) lost in straight sets to [33] Aliaksandra Sasnovich (BLR): 3-6, 3-6.
[24] Lesia Tsurenko (UKR) lost to the American teenager. [87] Amanda Anisimova crushed the veteran 6-0, 6-2.
[29] Donna Vekic (CRO) lost to a player ranked more than two-hundred spots below her. [249] Kimberly Birrell (AUS) won 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
[30] Gael Monfils (FRA) lost in a battle to [50] Taylor Fritz (USA); the American shrugged off the disappointment of losing the second set after being up a break and won 6-3, 6-7(8), 7-6(6), 7-6(5).

[5] Sloane Stephens dismantled her former junior doubles partner, [65] Timea Babos (HUN), 6-3, 6-1.
[35] Danielle Collins defeated fellow American, [123] Sachia Vickery. Hobbled by injured knees, Vickery fought as best she could; however, it was not enough and Collins won 6-3, 7-5.
Christian/Muhammad defeated Chang/Hsu 6-1, 6-2.
Harrison/Querrey defeated [16] Haase/Middelkoop 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
HEARTBREAKING LOSS FOR TWO AMERICANS
[62] Denis Kudla fought back to even the match only to lose to [18] Diego Schwartzman in the fifth set (4-6, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(6), 4-6).
[102] Reilly Opelka won the first and the fourth sets only to lose the match in the fifth set. [100] Thomas Fabbiano (ITA) outdueled the American to win 6-7(15), 6-2, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(8).
