SIGNIFICANT RANKING CHANGES FOR THE WEEK OF 08.27.2018
The mover of the week honors go to Daniil Medvedev. The twenty-two year old Russian won his second career singles title over the weekend and in the process cracked the top fifty for the first time. He won the Winston-Salem Open title without dropping a set and denied American, Steve Johnson, his third title of the season. The US Open gets underway today and both players will hope they did not expend too much energy on Saturday. Both players will have a lot of confidence from the weekend results and will use the positive energy to propel them forward in the draw, no doubt they each will hope to go very deep in the draw.
PLAYERS (within the top 100) | SPOTS MOVED | NEW RANK |
Daniil Medvedev (RUS) | UP 21 | 36 CAREER HIGH |
Taro Daniel (JPN) | UP 12 | 64 CAREER HIGH |
Monica Puig (PUR) | UP 17 | 55 |
Shuai Peng (CHN) | DOWN 11 | 93 |
ATP & WTA TOURS: the top ten members remained the same and maintained their exact positions from the previous week. Rafael Nadal remains atop the rankings for the men and Simona Halep remains atop the rankings for the women. They are both top seeds at the US Open and they both hope to capture their second major title of the season.
SPOTLIGHT PLAYER: the number four ranked player, Alexander Zverev, will look to go further than his quarterfinals showing at this year’s French Open. Most definitely, Zverev should do better than his second round showings at the US Open this year now that he understands the mental game and appears to be physically stronger.
