Roger Federer continues to defy the odds and make more history. He defended his 2017 Australian Open title with another thrilling fifth set victory. Now he owns twenty major titles, a record that will probably never get broken.

After a stretch of getting to finals (six) without winning a title, Caroline Wozniacki and her team were probably wondering what was going on. However, being the optimistic player that she is, she continued to fight until she won the title in Tokyo last year. Spurred on by that victory she ended her season with the biggest title of her career, the WTA Finals. That  plus the fact that she defeated Venus Williams, someone she had never previously beaten before was the catalyst to the performance we saw at this year’s Australian Open; the confidence to know that she can beat anyone no matter the score. She needed that belief to win her first major and she did so in a tough battle against Simona Halep.

Congratulations to all the first time champions.
