Bencic Climbs Back Into The Top 100

Bencic

WEEK: 11.20.2017

Mover of the week honors go to Belinda Bencic. After breaking into the top ten early in her career (number seven in 2016); the Swiss Miss found her career derailed by a plethora of injuries, which caused her to fall out of the top 100. She had not played since April following wrist surgery and returned to the WTA Tour in early October. She’s on the comeback trail, which was aided by her recently winning two consecutive titles. Bencic will look to build on this form in 2018 and if she stays healthy, I see no reason why she can not get back into the top ten.

PLAYERS (within the top 100) SPOTS MOVED NEW RANK
Jarry Nicolas (CHI) UP  19 99              (CAREER HIGH)
Matthew Ebden (AUS) UP  18 80
Lukas Lacko (SVK) UP  11 93
Belinda Bencic (SUI) UP  22 98
Ekaterina Alexandrova (RUS) DOWN  22 95
Aryna Sabalenka (BLR) DOWN  17 96

ATP Tour:  the top ten members remained the same; however, there was a quite a bit of shuffling between number three and number nine. Grigor Dimitrov gets to a career high of number three by winning the ATP Finals title.

WTA Tour: there were no changes in the top ten members; they all remained the same and maintained their exact positions from the previous week.

AMERICAN NUMBER ONES: Jack Sock ends the year as the number one ranked male at a career high of number eight, his first time into the elite top ten. Venus Williams continues to reign as the top female.

SPOTLIGHT PLAYER: Alexander “Sascha” Zverev ends his 2017 season as the number four ranked player on the ATP Tour with his stellar performance that earned him two Masters 1000 titles, one ATP 500, event, and two ATP 250 events.
