WEEK: 10.30.2017
The tennis season is winding down; although there are still a few 125K series tournaments, the season is essentially over on the WTA Tour with the completion of the WTA Finals. At 29, Mihaela Buzarnescu gets the mover of the week honors, moving up seventeen places to number 72. This is a career high for the Romanian, who has been tolling in the minor leagues trying to get her ranking up. She made it to her first career semifinals earlier this month at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz tournament before losing to the eventual champion Barbora Strycova. This accomplishment allowed the Romanian to break into the top 100 for the first time in her career. Buzarnescu won the ITF tournament title, Internationaux Feminins de la Vienne, yesterday and she will look to take this impressive form into the 2018 season and hopefully build on it by winning her first career WTA singles title.
